Whirlpool French-door refrigerator WRF767SDHZ review - Reviewed
Updated July 10, 2024
Despite some attractive features and consistent fridge temperatures, we found the Whirlpool WRF767SDHZ (available at Best Buy for $2,399.99) French-door refrigerator to be inconsistent in its overall performance and build quality. While its fridge compartment features above-average temperature performance, its freezer scored poorly. We like many of this Whirlpool French-door refrigerator’s extra fixtures but also ran into a few design quirks that hampered usability. Overall, while the fridge isn't bad, you can do better. One of our top-rated French-door fridges, the Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273CF, costs less and has better performance and many comparable features.

Temperatures in the fridge stay close to an ideal 37°F and only vary by a few degrees over time.
In addition to the Whirlpool WRF767SDHZ's standard array of bins, shelves, and humidity-controlled crispers, the fridge compartment features LED interior lighting, a beverage drawer, an adjustable-temperature full-width deli drawer, a through-the-door dispenser, and access to that dispenser's ice reservoir.
The freezer has its own, secondary ice maker on a shelf above its main storage basin. This basin includes a repositionable divider bin that breaks up the storage space. On the inside of the door is a thin storage area dedicated to holding vertically oriented frozen pizza boxes.
Our standardized testing lets us directly compare any two models to figure out which one performs the best.
Here at Reviewed, we test all large appliances in-house at our lab facilities in Cambridge, Mass. We've been testing every type of fridge for over a decade, including top-freezers, bottom-freezers, side-by-sides, and French-door models.
We put each fridge through our standardized battery of tests, which allows us to directly compare performances to see which fridges excel and which ones fall short. Knowing each fridge's strengths and weaknesses can help you determine which model best fits your needs.

Your fridge preserves food best by maintaining a temperature of 37°F. This keeps the fridge safely above freezing, but also ensures it's colder than the 40°F threshold at which bacteria proliferates quickly.
The Whirlpool WRF767SDHZ averages 37.97°F, which is less than 1°F away from perfect. The temperature barely budges over time, shifting by 2°F or less. Temperatures also remain consistent throughout the fridge, with a maximum of 5°F difference between its most and least cool spots.
This is a solidly above-average temperature performance. Its accurate, consistent temperatures should keep your food fresh longer than many competing fridges.
With a beverage drawer between the crispers and a variable-temperature deli drawer, this fridge provides a lot of non-standard organizational tools.
The Whirlpool WRF767SDHZ offers more organization options than a standard French-door fridge.
Between the crispers, you'll find a dedicated beverage drawer, which can fit either 10 12-ounce cans or 12 8.4-ounce cans. The drawer's position towards the bottom of the compartment makes it easily accessible for children, and it glides out smoothly to prevent the cans from jostling too much.
At the bottom of the fridge compartment is a full-width deli drawer with a dedicated temperature control slider. This drawer is ideal for wide, flat items, or can be used as extra crisper space. With the meat setting, you can lower its temperature down to 30°F. Though not as large a temperature range as a dedicated custom-temp flex drawer, we do like the option of colder storage.
Down in the lower drawer of the freezer, there's a sliding divider on the bottom bin that also provides some storage room of its own. You can slide this divider to the left or right to divvy up the bin's available storage.
At the front of the main freezer storage area is an in-door pizza storage bin. This pocket is large enough to let you slot in four small pizza boxes. We like the ability to store pizza boxes vertically, not only because it's space efficient, but also because storing them flat in the main bin can lead to them getting buried under other items or blocking access to items stored beneath them.
We find all the unique bins and drawers that the Whirlpool WRF767SDHZ provides to be helpful. If you tend to stock a lot of small things and frozen pizza boxes, you'll appreciate the dedicated space to organize these items.
Between its LED lighting, pull-out platter shelf, and in-door ice access, the WRF767SDHZ has a lot of extra details that make the fridge feel good to use.
The Whirlpool WRF767SDHZ comes with many features above and beyond what's standard, and all of them add value to the fridge.
To start, the internal LED lighting uses multiple panels to illuminate the entire fridge interior evenly. Items won't be shadowed by a packed-full top shelf, making it easy to quickly rediscover leftovers before they spoil. The bright and cheery lighting makes this fridge much more enjoyable to use over a typical, dreary, single-bulb setup.
We're always fans of a through-the-door ice and water dispenser, but the WRF767SDHZ offers a new spin on the fixture: The interior side of the dispenser allows you to access the ice reservoir. This is in addition to the ice maker in the freezer, letting you easily access ice from either compartment.
Temperatures in the freezer can vary by over 7°F, which is a large temperature differential for a fridge in this price range.
A variance of a few degrees is acceptable in a fridge, but in a freezer where temperatures hover around 0°F, a few degrees of difference represents a large jump in temperature.
Typically freezers wobble by a degree or two, but are otherwise consistent. With the Whirlpool WRF767SDHZ we saw temperatures range from -5.9°F to 1.15°F. The average freezer can keep temperature variance under 2°F and many freezers keep it to less than 1°F.
Inconsistent freezer temperatures can reduce the overall shelf life of your frozen foods by exacerbating the process of freezing and dethawing that causes freezer burn.
Crispers may not be the focus of a fridge, but the good ones can help your leafy greens last a lot longer.
In our testing, we found the crispers in this Whirlpool refrigerator didn't hold in humidity particularly well. Water vapor escaped at over twice the rate as our best-performing fridges. This means your fresh produce will wilt much faster than in competing models.
While we like most of the extra fixtures this Whirlpool French-door refrigerator offers, we did notice a few details that were off in some way. Combined, they undermine the overall user experience.
The glass spill-capture shelves look great and will mostly keep messes contained, but we did spot one area where the glass shelf didn't sit properly in its housing, coming up flush against what was supposed to be a raised edge.
The pull-out platter pocket above the crispers is a good idea in theory, allowing users better access to items, but the shelf has an incredibly limited range of motion. You're only able to pull it out by a few inches at most. While it's better than nothing, it did cause one team member trying it out to ask, "What's the point?"
Because all the drawers at the bottom of the fridge take up so much height, it can be difficult to place even moderately tall items on the shelves. To store milk or taller bottles on the shelves, you'll need to set the top and middle shelves as far apart as possible, leading to cramped storage elsewhere.
Likewise, the beverage center cuts into crisper storage space. One big bunch of kale was enough to take up an entire crisper drawer. It feels like there are too many compartments competing for too small a space. Also, either crisper can hitch along the edge of the beverage center as you pull them out—another small friction in this fridge's overall usability.
The narrow compartment dividers in the freezer are another odd design choice. While the lower basin's divider bin can be repositioned, we found that removing or repositioning the bin on the upper shelf would require removing the entire shelf (after trying to move it made us feel as though it would snap the plastic). This is a confusing design that initially left us feeling like we were doing something wrong, or that the fridge was defective in some way.
Users are generally happy with their purchase of the Whirlpool WRF767SDHZ, awarding it an average of 4.2 out of 5 stars across major retailers.
Those who are happy with their purchase call out the LED lighting, multiple ice bins, and its dedicated pizza box storage area.
Interestingly, a lot of the reviews feature numerous complaints, even those awarding the fridge 4 stars. Users don’t like how noisy the fridge is, either during normal use, when it makes ice, or when they use the through-the-door dispenser. Several reviews note that the ice in the top reservoir would often get stuck clumped together and need to be broken up manually. Lots of user reviews express disappointment with the overall quality of the fridge, though they don’t call out any feature in specific.
While we didn't encounter any loud noises or clumpy ice during our testing, we do agree that the usability issues make the fridge feel of a lower quality than we might have otherwise expected.
Whirlpool's standard warranty covers parts and labor for up to one year.
Whirlpool also offers extended service plans that can increase your coverage up to 5 years for $277.31.
This Whirlpool French-door refrigerator is a mixed bag. While we think it's fine overall, you can buy something better at this price point that doesn't have its quirks.
The fridge is capable of above-average temperature performance, but its freezer is inconsistent. We like the glass spill-capture shelves, but they don't seem to have been machined consistently. The pull-out shelf is nice, in theory, but in practice only being able to pull it out a few inches doesn't help much. The beverage drawer is nice to have, but it can cause the crispers to bind against it as you pull them out and eats into their storage space.
While none of this Whirlpool refrigerator’s flaws are particularly egregious, you use your fridge a lot, so those tiny frictions in its user experience get more noticeable over time. They're also problems you won't find in the best of its competition—many of which currently cost less.
For example, the amazing Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273CF, is available at a lower price, has significantly better temperature performance, and offers many comparable features with none of the downsides.
You can even pick up a gorgeous Samsung Bespoke French-door fridge at a similar price point. This fridge features better temperature performance in both the fridge and freezer and a full-sized custom-temperature flex drawer. As a Bespoke fridge, you can also completely customize the front panels to best fit your kitchen aesthetic.
If you can find it on sale, this Whirlpool has some nice features and consistent fridge temperatures.
