Human remains found in East Lansing home's freezer
East Lansing police are investigating human remains found inside a home's freezer last week, officials said.
Officers were called Thursday to a home in the 1500 block of Wintercrest Street off of Coolidge Road between Interstate 69 and West Lake Lansing Road for a report of a suspicious situation, the department said in a statement.
Authorities said the caller told dispatchers there was blood on the floor inside the home.
Police entered the home with the help of representatives from the company that managed the property and saw blood on the floor, authorities said.
Officers searched the home and found a person dead inside a freezer, investigators said.
Police also said the possible remains of a second person were in the same freezer.
Detectives called the Michigan State Police and together they collected evidence at the home to be examined at the state police crime laboratory, authorities reported.
Officials said the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about the remains or suspects should call the East Lansing Police Det. Sgt. Nicole Mitchell at (517) 319-6876 or Det. Jason Cotton at (517) 319-6842.
The discovery came more than three months after a Detroit mother was sentenced in connection with fatally injuring her young son in 2022 then putting his body in a basement freezer.
