Worker at Milwaukee McDonald's calls 911 after being stuck in freezer

Nov 09, 2024

North Shore Fire and Rescue responded to a north side Milwaukee McDonald's Friday evening to notify a supervisor that an employee was stuck in the freezer.

The incident took place at the McDonald's located at 5191 N. Teutonia Ave.

A North Shore Fire official said they notified employees at the McDonald's that someone called 911 from the freezer and said they were stuck.

"The (supervisor) walked around there, and he pulled on the latch and popped it out, and then he pushed on the door, the door came open and he goes, 'There should be no reason that door is ever locked.'"

A Louisiana Arby's worker was found dead after being trapped inside a walk-in freezer earlier this year. His family filed a $1 million wrongful death lawsuit. But, deaths inside walk-in freezers are uncommon, according to the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries.

McDonald's didn't immediately respond for a request for comment Friday.
